Painting Party with Tallulah Lines

Rafooghar welcomed researcher, artist, and muralist Tallulah Lines (@tallulahoola) along with UK-based filmmaker and researcher Emilie Flower and Brazilian artist Lia Petrelli (@liapetrelli) to India with a Painting Party.

These incredible women were in India for an artist residency as part of the research project, Art Rights Truth (@artrightstruth). They were here to explore the female gaze, uncoded forms, prefiguring expression, and women artists' takes on themes related to social justice, human rights and women's rights.

Their first stop was Rafooghar, where they met the women of Rafooghar, led workshops, and collaboratively painted a mural celebrating the power of stitching and storytelling.

We hosted a painting party to kick off their visit, an evening of mural-making, networking, and chilling with delicious local food and tunes curated by the Rafoo Gang.

Before coming to India, Tallulah asked us to email her a list of words that come to our women’s minds when they think of Rafooghar. Drawing from these words, she created this beautiful sketch of resting tigresses- symbolising our fierce women who come to Rafooghar to chill and relax, leaning on each other for comfort and strength.

And here is the finished mural - First we rest, then we roar!
