Aurat Ka Koi Ghar Nahin
A woman has no home!
We are so incredibly proud of our girl Saniya who has received the @rough_edges_arts Lost and Found Fellowship to make her film 'Aurat ka Koi Ghar Nahin' (A woman has no home)- a stop motion textile documentary.
The film will explore the hidden mental toll on divorced and separated women in Shaheen bagh, Jasola and Madanpur khadar, stories of women suspended between homes belonging nowhere.
Saniya is the second person from the Rafooghar community to receive a grant. Last year, Hariom Srivastav from Madanpur Khadar received the Futures in Formation ( @fica_india @serendipityartsfoundation ) grant for his idea Meethi Baradari, which was developed and nurtured in collaboration with Rafooghar.
Despite all odds, Saniya has made this happen. A single mother, a poet, an artist, a gardener, an excellent cook, a dreamer, a fighter and now a filmmaker.. Saniya deserves this and more.
We will be bringing the best of artists, animators, filmmakers to mentor Saniya. We have also got the ArtReach India team on board to support Saniya throughout her filmmaking journey.
Artist and art educator Shivangi Singh and Filmmaker, animator Shivi Bhatnagar did a film screening session at Rafooghar. We saw many animated films including Nina Sabnai’s The Stitches Speak (tanko bole chhe) and Hansa Thapliyal’s Kya hai yeh Samjhauta.
Sania met many other women from Shaheen Bagh, Jasola and Madanpur Khadar in similar circumstances and interviewed them for the film. Based on these interviews and her own lived experience, she has prepared the first draft of the script.
She is also spending a lot of time with artist and art eductor Reshma Khatoon and learning to make storyboards for her film.
We are extremely excited to see her so engrossed in the entire process. She will start experimenting with doll-making next week onwards.
Keep coming back here for regular updates on Saniya’s film. :)
